Roadside Assistance in Queens, NY
The umbrella that covers jumpstart, lockout, flat tire change, and fuel delivery — the four most common roadside problems. Whether you carry AAA, insurance roadside, or manufacturer warranty coverage, we direct-bill the program and you pay nothing out of pocket.
What roadside assistance actually means
"Roadside assistance" is industry shorthand for the four most common driver problems that don't require a full tow: dead battery (jumpstart), keys locked in the car (lockout), flat tire (spare swap), and out of gas (fuel delivery). Some programs also include short-distance towing (typically 5-10 miles to the nearest qualified shop), but the core menu is those four services.
The thing most drivers don't realize is that they're already paying for roadside coverage somewhere — usually multiple places. AAA membership, insurance roadside add-on, manufacturer new-car warranty, credit card travel benefits, even cell phone carriers (Verizon used to offer it, AT&T does in some plans). Knowing which one to use, and how to use them efficiently, is the difference between a covered service call and an unexpected $150 charge.
The four services in detail
Jumpstart — when your battery dies
Standalone price: $50 flat anywhere in Queens. Heavy-duty truck-mounted 2,000-amp packs that crank V8s and diesels other consumer packs give up on. Includes alternator output check at 13.7V to confirm whether you can drive home or need to be towed to a shop. Full details on the jumpstart page.
Lockout — when your keys are inside
Standalone price: $55 flat anywhere in Queens. Inflatable wedge plus long-reach rod, non-destructive on every car built since 2005. No slim jim, no broken windows, no jamb scratches. Most cars open in three to seven minutes. Child-or-pet-in-car calls prioritized over routine. Full details on the lockout page.
Flat tire — spare swap
Standalone price: $55 + parts. Spare swap on the spot when location is safe; tow off Queens Blvd or Northern Blvd to a side street when it isn't. Run-flats handled, donut spares installed correctly, sealant kit alternatives explained. Full details on the flat tire page.
Fuel delivery — emergency gas or diesel
Standalone price: $65 + fuel cost. Five gallons of regular 87, premium 91, or diesel delivered in fire-rated steel cans. Capless filler adapter for newer Fords, Chevys, GMCs, Cadillacs. Full details on the fuel delivery page.
Comparing your roadside options
AAA membership
The original roadside membership program, dating to 1902. Three tiers in 2026:
- AAA Classic ($60-$80/yr per member): 4 service calls per year, towing up to 5 miles, basic jumpstart, lockout, fuel, and tire change.
- AAA Plus ($110-$130/yr): 4 calls, towing up to 100 miles per call, more generous fuel and locksmith allowances.
- AAA Premier ($140-$170/yr): 4 calls, one tow up to 200 miles per year, free fuel, free locksmith reimbursement up to $150, and a few additional benefits like trip interruption coverage.
The AAA model: you pay annually, and when you call, AAA dispatch contracts with a local operator (often us in Queens) to handle the service. AAA pays the operator the negotiated rate; you pay nothing at the scene. The catch: the AAA dispatch step adds 10-30 minutes to response time on average. If you want speed, call us directly and we direct-bill AAA — same coverage, faster.
Insurance carrier roadside
Most major auto insurance carriers offer roadside as an add-on for $5-$25/year per vehicle. The coverage is typically:
- Geico — Emergency Road Service add-on, $14/yr typical, covers tow up to 5 miles, jumpstart, lockout, fuel, tire.
- Allstate — Roadside Assistance add-on or standalone "Allstate Motor Club" — covers similar services, towing varies by tier.
- State Farm — Emergency Road Service add-on, similar coverage to Geico.
- Progressive — Roadside Assistance add-on, similar coverage.
- USAA — Roadside Assistance add-on for members; tends to be more generous than commercial carriers on tow distance and per-call limits.
- Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Nationwide, Erie — All offer comparable add-ons.
The insurance carrier model: you pay the small annual add-on, and when you call the carrier's roadside line, they dispatch a contractor (often us in Queens). Same direct-bill flow as AAA. Same dispatch delay. Same fix: call us directly and we bill the carrier.
Manufacturer warranty roadside
Most new vehicles come with manufacturer-included roadside for the warranty period (typically 3-5 years/36k-60k miles, varies by brand). After warranty, paid extended programs continue the coverage. Coverage details:
- Honda Care — In-warranty roadside through Honda Care, includes tow to nearest dealer, jumpstart, lockout, tire, fuel.
- Toyota Care — Similar to Honda, with tow to nearest Toyota dealer.
- Hyundai/Kia — 5-year/60k-mile roadside included on most new vehicles.
- Subaru — 3-year/36k-mile roadside on new vehicles, extended through Subaru Care.
- Ford / Lincoln — Roadside Assistance included with the Bumper-to-Bumper warranty.
- GM (Chevy, Buick, GMC, Cadillac) — 5-year roadside included.
- Tesla — Roadside included for the basic warranty period; covers tow to nearest Tesla service center.
- BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz — 4-year roadside as part of the limited warranty; includes towing to nearest authorized dealer, premium service like rental car coverage in some cases.
The manufacturer model: you call the manufacturer's roadside number (or the vehicle's built-in SOS button on newer cars), they dispatch a local contractor (often us in Queens, sometimes another operator). Coverage is comprehensive, billing is direct.
Credit card and other auxiliary coverage
Many credit cards (Visa Signature, World MasterCard, certain Amex tiers) include roadside dispatch as a benefit — but read the fine print. The "free" call usually just refers you to a dispatcher who calls a local operator and bills you for the actual service at retail rates. The dispatch is "free"; the work is paid. Read your card's benefits guide carefully — it's not the same as actually-covered roadside.
How to actually use your coverage
The fastest path is usually:
- Call us directly at (718) 550-1460. Skip the program dispatch step.
- Tell dispatch your coverage program upfront. "I have AAA Plus, member number XXX." "I have Geico Roadside, policy number YYY." "My car is a 2024 Honda CR-V still under warranty." We know which programs we direct-bill.
- We contact the program for authorization. Standard 5-10 minute step.
- Truck rolls. Service performed. Bill goes to the program. You pay nothing at the scene.
If you call AAA or your insurance carrier first, they may or may not dispatch us specifically — it depends on which contractor they assign for that call. So the same service might end up taking longer because of the carrier dispatch step. Going directly is faster, and the coverage is the same.
What roadside programs typically don't cover
Common exclusions in standard programs:
- Vehicle on private property in some cases. AAA covers driveways and parking lots; some insurance roadside programs require the vehicle to be on a public road.
- Commercial use vehicles. Rideshare, delivery, taxi, fleet — usually need a different commercial program. Personal-use coverage doesn't apply.
- More than the tier limit of calls per year. AAA Classic is 4 calls/year. After that, you pay retail.
- Tire replacement (vs spare swap). Coverage is for the labor of swapping to your spare. New tire purchase and installation is separate.
- Fuel beyond the limit. Most programs cover 2-5 gallons. Beyond that you pay for the extra fuel.
- Lost keys (vs locked inside). Lockout is "key inside the car." Lost-key replacement is a locksmith call — separate.
- Battery replacement. Jumpstart is covered. New battery purchase and installation is separate (some AAA programs offer it as a paid service through their mobile battery program).
- Damage from the breakdown itself. If the flat tire wrecked the rim, the flat tire service covers swapping the spare; the rim repair or replacement is on you (or your collision insurance, if applicable).
When to use roadside vs when to just call us
If you have active coverage and the issue is one of the standard four (jump, lockout, tire, fuel), use the coverage — call us, we direct-bill, you pay nothing. The annual fee you already paid covers the call.
If you don't have coverage, or the issue is outside the standard four (full tow, accident recovery, motorcycle tow, long distance), pay our standard rates directly. The pricing pages for each service explain what each one costs.
If your coverage limits are already maxed out for the year (you've used your 4 AAA calls, or you've exceeded the per-call distance), pay our standard rates. Adding the cost of an extra call to the AAA tier you've already paid for usually isn't worth it for a single incident.
Common Queens roadside scenarios
Forest Hills cold-morning jumpstart with AAA Plus
Owner has AAA Plus, car won't start in the driveway. Call us directly, tell us "AAA Plus, member 123456." We contact AAA for the authorization, dispatch the truck, jump the car, check the alternator. Bill goes to AAA. Owner pays $0 at the scene.
Northern Blvd lockout with Geico Roadside
Owner has Geico Roadside on the policy, locked keys in the car at a Costco. Calls us directly. We get the policy number, call Geico for authorization, open the car. Bill goes to Geico. Same flow as AAA.
2025 Toyota with manufacturer warranty roadside, flat tire on Atlantic Ave
Brand-new car, warranty roadside still active. Customer calls us directly with the VIN, we call Toyota Care for authorization, swap to spare, recommend a tire shop. Bill goes to Toyota Care.
Out-of-coverage fuel delivery on Cross Bay Blvd
Owner doesn't have AAA, doesn't have insurance roadside, and the car is out of warranty. Out of gas on Cross Bay Blvd. We deliver fuel for the standard $65 + fuel cost — $82 total at current pump prices. Owner pays at the scene with cash, card, or app.
What you can do before the truck arrives
- Locate your coverage info. AAA card in your wallet or app. Insurance card with the roadside number on the back. Owner's manual has the manufacturer roadside number, or look it up by brand.
- Have the policy or membership number ready. Saves the dispatcher 5 minutes per call.
- Confirm the program is current. Lapsed AAA membership or insurance policy means no coverage. The carrier verifies on the authorization call; we'd rather know upfront.
- If you have multiple coverages (AAA + insurance + manufacturer warranty), pick one. They usually don't combine on the same call. The ones with the most generous tier limits (AAA Premier, manufacturer warranty in the warranty period) are often the right call.
- Get to a safe location if the car can move. Coverage doesn't help if you're hit by passing traffic while waiting on a busy road. Side street first, call us second.
Roadside Assistance Questions
What's included in roadside assistance?
The standard roadside menu is jumpstart, lockout, flat tire change (spare swap), and emergency fuel delivery. Some programs also include short-distance towing. What you actually get depends on your specific program — AAA Plus, Geico's Mechanical Breakdown, your dealer's roadside program — they all cover slightly different things at different limits.
How does AAA compare to insurance roadside?
AAA Classic ($60-$80/yr) covers 4 service calls per year, towing up to 5 miles. AAA Plus ($110-$130/yr) covers 4 calls and tows up to 100 miles. AAA Premier ($140-$170/yr) adds extras. Insurance roadside (Geico, Allstate, etc.) is typically $5-$25/yr added to your auto policy and covers similar services with similar limits.
What does manufacturer warranty roadside cover?
Most manufacturers include some form of roadside in the new-car warranty period (typically 3-5 years/36k-60k miles). Coverage usually includes towing to the nearest authorized dealer, jumpstart, lockout, fuel delivery, and tire change. Costs are zero to the customer for in-warranty vehicles.
Can you direct-bill my AAA or insurance roadside?
Yes for most programs. AAA, Geico, Allstate, State Farm, Progressive, USAA, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, Travelers — all routine. Manufacturer warranty roadside (Honda Care, Toyota Care, Ford, GM, Tesla, BMW) — also routine. On the call you give us the program name and policy/membership number.
What's not covered by typical roadside programs?
Common exclusions: vehicles on private property (some programs), commercial use vehicles (rideshare, delivery), lockouts caused by lost-rather-than-locked-inside keys (sometimes), tire damage requiring replacement (covers labor only), fuel beyond a certain quantity, and any service called more than 4 times a year.
Do you replace tires on the spot?
No. Roadside tire service is spare swap — we put your spare on the car. New tire installation requires a tire machine and balancer that we don't carry on the road. The right flow is: roadside swap to spare, then drive to a tire shop or get towed to a tire shop for the actual replacement.
How fast does roadside dispatch work?
Direct call to us is fastest — typically 15-30 minutes from call to driver arrival. Calling through your insurance carrier or AAA adds time because the call goes to their dispatch center first. If you have program coverage but want speed, call us directly and ask us to bill the program.
Can I use roadside for a vehicle I don't own?
Depends on the program. AAA membership covers the member regardless of which vehicle they're in. Insurance roadside generally covers only the vehicle on the policy. Manufacturer warranty roadside covers only the warranty-eligible vehicle. Tell dispatch the situation on the call.
